Social Networking is Anti-Social and the Self-Promoting of 'Not You'

If we seemingly gloat over pop culture, bounce back and forth the current media trends, we expect to plant our own flags in the Twitter or Facebook stratosphere, not to mention be given a 'thumbs up' as a commentator on some random video's, blog post's, article's thread (etc. etc.).

I am yet to locate a healthy trend: a trend that is collective and cooperative. Social networking, I have experienced, is many individuals stuck in their own bubble of notoriety. "If I 'Tweet' about breaking news or so and so's number one billboard spot, maybe post on my Facebook Wall what all my followers and friends are bedazzled over, maybe someone will follow me back or become my Facebook friend. Maybe someone will purchase my product." Unfortunately the substance of originality is lacking and the terms 'follower' and 'friend' morph into terms both artificial and revolting.

I am not singling out anyone or stating everyone is suspect of the deterioration caliber of the Internet's social fiber but there is more of a social cycle on halt than an evolving network. Am I complaining that I don't have enough followers on Twitter or enough friends nestled beneath my profile on Facebook to worship me? No. I have only read the remarks and columns of intellectuals that bare a close, if not identical, thought margin. To me they are intellectuals. I am not comparing myself to an intellectual or social networking wise man.

In brief I would like to suggest a new trend, a healthy cycle of influence as opposed to dire manipulation and conniving 'Retweet' routines. Dispense with the copycat formulae, the 'hashtag' nonsense, the '@' repetitiveness, the " " (quote after quote), the covetous remarks reflecting that of the tabloids, invest in yourself instead of making the financially astute more financially astute, idolize no one and .. be yourself.

I don't know if this is advice in your opinion however, you have just read my opinions. I appreciate your valuable time. So, this is the end of my post and I won't be asking you for a credit card number, an email address or to follow me or join LinkedIn, Facebook or Google+. A friend will tell you that. Have a peaceful, prosperous and God-willing day.
