My Favorite Elmo Doll (Thank You, Sesame Street)
Gund Sesame Street Elmo 15" Plush - I vaguely remember, as a child, sitting crosslegged on my first living room's green carpeting, 4 ft. from our Mitsubishi television screen, mesmerized by Sesame Street. The retro muppets of the 1980s danced, told simple riddles, counted and recounted. The props, the blank backgrounds and visible strings on most of the puppets didn't phase me. My mind and eyes were transfixed and so was my heart.
I still watch Sesame Street when accompanying my son in front of our Sharp (I miss that gigantic Misubishi TV that took 4 guys to carry). The modern episodes will sometimes treat the viewer to a flashback of 1980s animations, the animations I smile at even today. I can't believe the wrinkles and fatty deposits most of the human cast has accrued but hey, if I sit crosslegged on the carpet anymore, trying to get back up is a task in itself. I am reminded of my youth when watching my son, reminded that youth is precious and short and .. I'm getting old.
So, may Mr. Hooper rest in peace and the remaining cast of Sesame Street go on living. This Street seems to creep through everyone's backyard, every Sesame Street fan's neighborhood, every mind with a picture worth a thousand words. Thank you, Sesame Street.
